Young Guns Archery Hosts Ohio S3DA Outdoor Target State Championship

Young Guns Archery Hosts Ohio S3DA Outdoor Target State Championship

Williamsburg, KY – Young Guns Archery recently hosted the Ohio S3DA Outdoor Target State Championship at the Elk Creek Metropark in Middletown, Ohio. This park has a beautiful natural setting with a lot of open lawn space which is perfect to accommodate an outdoor target archery event. Archers from six teams across the state made their way to Middletown to compete for their chance to be crowned an Outdoor Target State Champion. Julie McDonald of Young Guns Archery presented the YG Heath McDonald Memorial Scholarship to barebow archer Lauren Oosterbaan for $2,500.00. Lauren will be attending the University of the Cumberlands this coming Fall to pursue a bachelor’s degree while continuing her archery career.

The overcast skies and steady wind created adversity, but the Jr. Eagle and Eagle archers were able to get six ends completed before the rain came. Youth and Young Adult participants made it to their third end before everyone had to evacuate the field due to the proximity of lightning strikes. After about a half-hour break, the sun came out and the wind died down a little. Youth and Young Adult archers made their way back to the field and resumed shooting.

When the last arrow was shot, archers and their families headed to the shelter house where the award ceremony was conducted. The top three archers from their respective class and division received a medal. Archers with the highest combined score total from competing in each state event (Indoor, 3D, and Outdoor Target) received an award for Ohio S3DA Shooter of the Year.

Julie McDonald said, “Young Guns Archery was very excited to get to host our first Ohio S3DA Outdoor Target event at our new practice field. I appreciate all of the parents, archers, and local businesses for their support. It thrills me to see the Ohio S3DA program growing!”

“This was a great event! The weather was a little all over the place, but these archers did a great job of persevering. Julie and her Young Guns parents did an awesome job setting everything up. It takes a village to make these events happen and I couldn’t be more excited about the village we are building in Ohio. We have quite a few active youth participants in Ohio S3DA, but I know there are so many that we have not reached. That is why I have made it a personal goal to add a minimum of three new teams before the start of the 2025 competition season,” stated Ohio S3DA State Coordinator, Danyell Kemerer.
