SCI Foundation, fueled by hunter-conservationists like you, is committed to global wildlife conservation, outdoor education, and humanitarian projects. Our mission is to provide scientific data to foster sustainable practices across the globe. Our current project in Botswana focuses on managing African leopards, a key species for tourist hunters and the local hunting industry. International conservation organizations have noted that improved large-scale abundance data would be crucial to ensuring the sustainability of leopard harvest and leopard populations.

In response, we adopted the Dr. Ralph Cunningham leopard conservation strategy, starting with estimating leopard density in Botswana, a project we aim to complete by 2024. This effort, supported by SCIF members and donors, involves surveying 20-25 areas countrywide. Leopards are surveyed using remote cameras placed on roads or trails in a grid pattern. We have surveyed twelve areas so far with excellent results. Our goal is to showcase how hunter-supported, science-based information can aid long-term big cat conservation in Africa. The Botswana project will wrap up by the end of 2024, but our work is not done yet. With your support, we will be moving our efforts to a new country in 2025, and expanding to as many countries as we can reach in future years.
