Montana state parks in the Missoula area will offer public programming in the coming months, beginning with a bird banding event on Saturday, June 15 at Milltown State Park followed by a Junior Ranger program series at several local state parks June 17 through August 22.
Bird banding June 15
Join Montana Fish, Wildlife & Parks and the University of Montana Bird Ecology Lab at the Milltown State Park Confluence on Saturday, June 15 from 7-11 a.m. for the free bird banding event. Meet at the state park confluence area, located in East Missoula/Bonner area (7363 Juniper Drive, Missoula). Participants will observe birds close at hand, learn some basic identification skills, and hear why biologists band birds, what types of data they collect, and why riparian areas are so important to birds.
Junior Ranger programs
Beginning June 17, Missoula-area state parks will host a series of summer Junior Ranger programs on some Mondays and Thursdays. The programs are free and designed for kids ages 6-12 years old. All programs run from 11-12:30 p.m. Attend at least three programs and earn a Junior Ranger badge.

June 20: Wildflowers and Pollinators at Council Grove
June 24: Creatures of the Night at Milltown Confluence
June 27: Creatures of the Night at Frenchtown Pond
July 8: Nature Journaling at Milltown Overlook
July 11: Nature Journaling at Council Grove
July 22: Bull Trout and Rivers at Milltown Confluence
July 25: Pond Ecology at Frenchtown Pond
Aug. 12: Native Games at Milltown Confluence
Aug. 15: Native Games at Council Grove
Aug. 19: Leave No Trace at Milltown Confluence
Aug. 22: Leave No Trace at Frenchtown Pond
