Smith & Wesson Launches Model 1854 Lever Gun

Smith & Wesson stands across generations as a company that is committed to crafting and refining firearms. Our path started when two men, Horace Smith & Daniel Baird Wesson, pursued the summit of firearm technology and developed one of the first repeating firearm – the Volcanic. For 170 years since, we have woven the trajectory of firearms evolution, etching the names of the duo who got us started into the chronicles of history.

Today, we reflect on our origins.

Keeping true to our timeless heritage, we are proud to announce the Model 1854 Series of lever action rifles. An American classic – redefined for the modern user.

The Model 1854 may be our first foray into the world of modern lever actions, but we have spent years developing this gun from the ground up, perfecting the action, pitting it against competitors, and conducting rigorous endurance tests to bring you the best of the best from Smith & Wesson’s factory.

The standout feature of the Model 1854 is the smooth action. Consistent in its lightness, the helpful oversized lever is nearly effortless as you swing it forward, seamlessly cocking the hammer, ejecting a spent round, and grabbing a new one from the tube. The same goes as you smoothly pull the lever back into position, overcoming no resistance as the Model 1854 lifts a new round of 44 Magnum into the chamber. Finally, the crisp snap when the lever settles back in position gives you the command that the rifle is in battery and is ready for the next shot. Speaking of that next shot, the flat trigger allows your finger to have a consistent placement, pulling back to a firm wall with a crisp and clean break at about 5lbs.

These rifles are as functional as they are sleek. The polymer version’s furniture maintains a lightweight at 6.8lbs with the forend featuring M-LOK® slots at true 3, 6, and 9 o’clock positions for ease of mounting accessories like bipods and tripods. The M-LOK doubles for a flat, consistent surface to lay the rifle atop shooting sticks or barricade. We also wanted to give you ultimate customization choices. That’s why the furniture on the Model 1854 is easily interchangeable and compatible with Marlin® 1894 pattern forends and stocks.

On top of the rifle, we added a Picatinny rail for your choice of optics and scopes. However, if you want to stick with the classic look of irons, a fully adjustable XS® ghost-ring rear sight and a gold bead front sight come installed on the Model 1854, ensuring you won’t miss a shot.

Pair those features with 9+1 capacity, 11/16”-24 threaded 19.25” barrel, and removable magazine tube and you’ve got a lever gun ready for the 21st century.

The Model 1854 is launching with two versions, both chambered in the almighty 44 Magnum. First is a utilitarian stainless-steel bead-finish gun with polymer furniture. The second is an extremely limited-edition black version with high-grade walnut stocks where only 1,854 units will be available for sale.
