Pennsylvania S3DA Hosts 3D State Championship

Williamsburg, KY – Perry County Archers in New Bloomfield, Pennsylvania is a nonprofit archery organization open to archers of all ages and shooting styles. They recently hosted the 2023 Pennsylvania S3DA 3D State Championship with the largest participation numbers to date with over one-hundred archers from eleven teams. As the spectators, parents, coaches, and archers gathered to listen to the announcements prior to going out on the range, you could see the excitement on their faces and the eagerness to get started. Pennsylvania S3DA State Conservation Coordinator, Rose Moore, set up a learning station about trees and how important they are to conserving and preserving our outdoors. Each archer was able to take home a tree sapling at the conclusion of the event. Young Adult competitors that podiumed were awarded scholarship opportunities from collegiate archery programs across the United States.

S3DA Parent and Volunteer, Dawn Mitten said, “The Pennsylvania 3D state event was amazing. Coach Carla Orris and the Perry County S3DA group pulled together to host an awesome event. The S3DA program is so much more than a competition. There are so many friendships that have developed between archers from many different teams across the state. These archers have become family.”

S3DA eagle archer Avarie and youth archer Kaylin Mitten commented, “The shoot was a lot of fun. If you have a bow you should come to our club, because it’s fun and you meet new people. This program has taught me discipline and focus, and everyone is really helpful.”

Carla Orris said, “As Regional Coordinator for South Central PA and Head Coach at Perry County Archers, I was excited to host the Pennsylvania S3DA 3D State Championship. The day was a tremendous success due to some great volunteers at our club and across the Pennsylvania S3DA family! There were two courses groomed and ready to go, one for Youth and Young Adult, the other for Jr. Eagle and Eagle. Food was provided by a local food truck, Cumberland Gap BBQ. Sponsor donations provided an event t-shirt for all the kids. The shootdowns were in the open for everyone to be able to attend and watch and there were lots of smiles, laughter, and congratulations. We received a lot of compliments from parents, archers, and coaches. Perry County had tons of support from wonderful volunteers who helped set up and make the tournament a huge success. The day was truly a great representation of the Pennsylvania S3DA culture and its growth!”

Pennsylvania S3DA State Coordinator, Pete Slusser said, “This was the largest 3D event to date for Pennsylvania and the excitement from everyone was incredible. Perry County Archers took on the challenge of hosting the event and exceeded all expectations. This is just another example of the #PAPowerhouse mentality and the willingness of archers, coaches, and parents to come together to not only make these events possible but leave with everlasting memories.”

About Scholastic 3-D Archery

Scholastic 3-D Archery (S3DA) is a unique, family-oriented youth archery program which has grown exponentially across the United States as a next-step initiative to follow introductory archery programs. The mission of the Scholastic

3-D Archery program is to foster, educate and guide youth in the areas of 3D, indoor target, and outdoor target archery as well as safe, ethical bowhunting practices. The goal of the S3DA program is to provide archery and bowhunting opportunities to youth in after-school settings, as well as with archery-affiliated clubs and businesses in the community. S3DA youth participate in 3-D and target archery using compound and traditional archery equipment. Youth members can participate at regional, state and national archery events and earn college scholarships from colleges and universities across the United States. S3DA addresses the need for a program to bridge beginning target archery experience and more advanced activities such as 3-D shooting and bowhunting.
