Outdoor Media Summit Announces “New Gear Campout”

Outdoor Media Summit (OMS), the conference for outdoor gear journalists and brand marketers, will add an experiential component to the show called New Gear Campout. New Gear Campout will take place on Sunday, October 13th, the evening before OMS officially kicks off its three-day conference programming.

New Gear Campout will bring together high-profile gear journalists and top outdoor brands for an overnight gear testing and camping experience in scenic Missoula, Montana. The event will not only allow media to test gear from sponsors in an outdoor setting—it will also create a space for media, brands and their PR teams to connect in an authentic adventure together.

“We’re always looking for ways to help attendees connect at a deeper level,” said Yoon Kim, founder of Outdoor Media Summit. “I’ve always found that sitting around a campfire with like-minded people is one of the best ways to do so.”

Currently, media speakers and OMS sponsors will be invited to the campout due to limited space at the campsite. As space allows, others will be invited based on a waitlist system. Currently, brands like NEMO Equipment, ENO and OM System are supporting the event.

The campout will be held at Lubrecht Experimental Forest, a facility that is managed by the University of Montana. OMS staff and Destination Missoula will offer shuttles to and from Lubrecht Experimental Forest so transportation between the airport, hotel and the campsite will be seamless. Attendees have the option to stay in a wood cabin lodge on site with showers and bathrooms or classic tent camping using the attending brand’s latest gear.

“I love every opportunity to get folks out to Lubrecht,” said Emily Rolston, group sales manager, Destination Missoula. “It’s a beautiful site and such an asset of the University of Montana, providing research, education and recreation in the Blackfoot River Valley. I can’t wait for OMS attendees to experience Missoula and our greater backyard.”

New Gear Campout will take place on the evening of October 13th, preceding the main OMS conference taking place from October 14th to 16th in Missoula. OMS is a three-day event that features keynotes, technical breakout sessions, workshops and other networking opportunities tailored for marketing professionals at outdoor brands and gear journalists in the media.
