Hornady Shooters Win Wyoming Tactical Rifle Championship

Grand Island, NE – Hornady® congratulates Sean Murphy and Greg Hamilton for winning the Wyoming Tactical Rifle Championship, July 8-9, 2023, in Gillette, Wyoming.

Murphy competed as the team rifle shooter using Hornady 6mm 110 gr. A-Tip® Match bullets in his 6mm Creedmoor and Hamilton competed as the team carbine shooter using Hornady 22 Cal. 73 gr. ELD® Match bullets in his gas gun. Both competitors shot a 9mm pistol loaded with Hornady 9mm 125 gr. HAP® bullets.

“The Wyoming Tactical Rifle Championship is one of our favorite events due to the challenging field with many small targets and variable conditions,” said Murphy. “Hornady bullets were essential to winning this match,” he added.

The Wyoming Tactical Rifle Championship has four field courses that are approximately 1.5 miles long, with 6-9 shooting stations that must be completed in under two hours. Each stage is a mix of rifle, carbine, and pistol targets. Additionally, there is a team vs. team shoot-off on Sunday for additional points.

A-Tip® Match bullets feature an aluminum tip that’s precision machined and longer than polymer tips, that moves the center of gravity and enhances inflight stability, resulting in tighter groups and reduced drag variability. In addition, A-Tip bullets are sequentially packaged for the ultimate in consistent performance.

ELD® Match (Extremely Low Drag Match) bullets are technologically advanced, enhanced accuracy target bullets featuring Heat Shield® tips with the PERFECT MEPLAT (tip point) combined with numerous design features that deliver the highest-in-class ballistic coefficients, superior accuracy, and extreme consistency from bullet to bullet, lot to lot.

Gain the competitive edge with Hornady® HAP® (Hornady® Action Pistol) bullets. Modeled after the legendary XTP® bullet design, HAP® bullets are further refined into the perfect competition projectile. While XTP® bullets use serrations to aid in controlled expansion and terminal performance, we have eliminated these from HAP® bullets, creating a sleek and balanced projectile with a protected nose that aids in consistent and reliable feeding in auto loading pistols. Bullet jackets, featuring industry leading concentricity combined with precision swaged cores, deliver the very best in accuracy and performance.
