Williamsburg, KY – Big Hollow Recreation Area is the premiere outdoor recreation destination in Des Moines County. The property holds a 178-acre lake complete with a beach, boat ramp and multiple fishing jetties to offer ample opportunity to enjoy the outdoors with the family on or near the water. Flint River Archery Club recently held an Iowa/Illinois S3DA Outdoor Target Regional at Big Hollow Recreation Area in Sperry, Iowa. The event staff along with coaches, parents, and participants were all skeptical of the weather, but it turned out to be an absolutely beautiful day for an outdoor archery event. Archers from Crooked Creek Outdoors, Rigney’s School of Archery – RSA, and Flint River Archery club gathered to compete.
One of the parents, Melissa Peterson said, “I love how organized this event was. From the start till the finish, the kids all supported each other, and the adults did too. This sport is a great way for kids to set goals for themselves and learn how to work to achieve them.”
Iowa S3DA State Coordinator, Denissa Cornick said, “It was great to see so many smiles and hear laughter from the youth archers that participated in the Flint River Archery Outdoor Target Regional. It was clear that many of these archers have become friends over the years. It doesn’t matter what state or team a child is a part of, they all love archery and truly enjoy being able to visit and compete with one another. We have a great group of kids, parents, coaches, and volunteers! I look forward to the off season and am planning for an exciting 2024 season.”

About Scholastic 3-D Archery
Scholastic 3-D Archery (S3DA) is a unique, family-oriented youth archery program which has grown exponentially across the United States as a next-step initiative to follow introductory archery programs. The mission of the Scholastic
3-D Archery program is to foster, educate and guide youth in the areas of 3D, indoor target, and outdoor target archery as well as safe, ethical bowhunting practices. The goal of the S3DA program is to provide archery and bowhunting opportunities to youth in after-school settings, as well as with archery-affiliated clubs and businesses in the community. S3DA youth participate in 3-D and target archery using compound and traditional archery equipment. Youth members can participate at regional, state and national archery events and earn college scholarships from colleges and universities across the United States. S3DA addresses the need for a program to bridge beginning target archery experience and more advanced activities such as 3-D shooting and bowhunting. The program currently operates across the United States with hundreds of certified coaches serving thousands of youth archers.
