St. Augustine, FL – A brand new formula is coming out of the Fishbites® Manufacturing Campus in St. Augustine, Florida. Fishbites® Ghost Shrimp is part of the Longer Lasting collection which gradually releases scent into the water. It also provides extra durability by featuring a cloth binder in the middle of the bait that keeps it on the hook despite the efforts of pesky bait stealers.
Ghost shrimp bury themselves under the sand making them hard to find and catch but they have become an incredibly popular and effective bait for many species, including the coveted Florida pompano. To make this bait more accessible to anglers, not just in Florida but around the world, Fishbites® went back to the lab to see if the chemical composition could be analyzed and recreated into a synthetic bait. Dr. William Carr, the inventor of Fishbites®, was the first associate director of Whitney Lab which housed his research lab. This is where he first created what is known today as Fishbites®. Scientists Dr. Charles (Chuck) Derby, Dr. Yuriy Bobkov, and Dr. Joseph Ryan spent time in the Whitney Lab analyzing live specimens of ghost shrimp. “The approach is to understand the chemicals that are being released by the ghost shrimp. These chemicals are called metabolites which attract fish to a live bait,” explained Dr. Derby. Once those components are identified, a synthetic stimulant is created which is used in Fishbites® flavor/scent technology.

About Fishbites® Flavor/Scent Technology
Fishbites® uses a concentrated formula that replicates the natural chemicals fish use to detect and track their prey. Fishbites® gradually dissolve in water, releasing a trail of powerful feeding stimulants. When fish bite they hold on longer because the flavor and texture are similar to their natural prey, offering anglers more chances to set the hook.
