Congressional Sportsmen’s Foundation’s (CSF) Director of Federal Relations, Taylor Schmitz, was awarded the 2023 – 2024 Conservation Leader Award during Delta Waterfowl’s Duck Hunters Expo in Baton Rouge on Saturday, July 27.
The Delta Waterfowl Conservation Leader Award was created to recognize an individual, organization, company, or agency whose work has shown a clear commitment to supporting Delta’s mission to conserve habitat, produce ducks, and secure the future of waterfowl hunting. Delta Waterfowl is one of CSF’s key partners in our efforts to advance the interests of sportsmen and women, and this award furthers the strong link between the two organizations.
“We are pleased to recognize Taylor Schmitz, Director of Federal Relations with the Congressional Sportsmen’s Foundation for his leadership and many contributions to ducks, duck hunters and duck habitat over the past year,” said Delta Waterfowl’s Chief Policy Officer John Devney. “Taylor’s hard work on Capitol Hill, amongst the agencies and as Chairman of the American Wildlife Conservation Partners has made him a key voice and trusted partner in Delta’s work on behalf of ducks and duck hunters.”
Upon graduating college from Frostburg State University in 2016, Taylor joined CSF where he works directly with the Congressional Sportsmen’s Caucus, the Administration, and federal agencies to advance bipartisan, meaningful solutions to issues of importance to sportsmen and women. A native of Maryland, Taylor is an avid hunter and angler and particularly enjoys bow hunting for White-tailed deer, waterfowl hunting, and chasing turkeys in the spring.
Taylor currently serves as the Chairman of the American Wildlife Conservation Partners and is a Professional Member of the Boone & Crockett Club. Additionally, Taylor is member of the Mallows Bay-Potomac River National Marine Sanctuary Advisory Council, and was named to the “40 under 40” list by SHOT Business in 2020. He also serves as a member of the Maryland Coldwater Fisheries Advisory Council to help provide guidance and advice on efforts to conserve his home streams and rivers.
“Delta Waterfowl is a tremendous leader for waterfowl hunters and sportsmen and women across the country. Together, CSF and Delta Waterfowl are a force for conservation and our hunting traditions,” said Schmitz. “I am honored to accept this award, but this award is more reflective of the work of the talented staff at CSF that I am fortunate to call my colleagues.”
