Community Bear Meeting Scheduled in Red Lodge December 9

Discussion topics will include bear conflict prevention and management

Montana Fish, Wildlife & Parks is hosting a community bear meeting at the Red Lodge Senior and Community Center (207 Villard Ave. South) on Saturday, Dec. 9, from 6 to 8 p.m. The event is free and open to the public. Area landowners are encouraged to attend.

FWP wildlife officials will provide information on bear management, a synopsis of bear conflicts in the area throughout 2023 and provide information on conflict prevention at home and while recreating. There will be an extensive question and answer period for the public to ask specific questions to local FWP staff.

Grizzly and black bears are both present in the Red Lodge area. As grizzly bear populations continue to expand across Montana, FWP hopes to engage local communities within occupied, and likely occupied, grizzly bear habitat to share information on bear safety and conflict prevention.
