Whitetails Unlimited Awards $10,000 to Portage County Ohio Sheriff’s Department

Whitetails Unlimited awarded a grant totaling $10,000 to the Portage County Ohio Sheriff’s Department in support of their youth fishing derby and K-9 program. The derby was attended by 175 kids, 30 deputies, and a handful of Whitetails Unlimited volunteers. More than 300 fish were caught throughout the day.

The event was held in conjunction with the Ravenna Moose Lodge and was free to all area youth 16 and under. Food, games, and prizes were awarded to all those in attendance. The department’s K-9 unit was also in attendance providing demonstrations. The K-9 can be called upon when search and rescue is needed in the event of a lost or injured hunter or outdoorsman.
