Homeowner shoots at suspects during attempted Auburn break-in

Security footage shows the suspects shouting “Seattle police” before attempting to kick in the front door.
AUBURN, Wash. — An Auburn resident encountered a frightening situation on Thursday morning at their front door.

The Auburn Police Department (APD) was dispatched to an address on 117th Place SE for reports of a shooting, according to a Facebook post on the department’s page. No one was injured in the shooting, police said.

Security footage from the home included in the department’s post shows three men approach the front door of the home and begin to kick it in. The men appeared to announce themselves as “Seattle police” before they tried to kick in and knock down the front door with a shoulder.

“Luckily enough, they had a dead-bolted door that was hard for them to get into, so them kicking and not getting in right away really allowed the homeowners time to react,” said Auburn Police spokesperson Kolby Crossley.

The homeowner was armed and shot back at the suspects through the front door, which was captured in the final seconds of the video.

The shootout sent bullets flying in the area. No one was hurt, but houses were hit. “I heard a bullet go through a window and our alarm started going off,” said a neighbor who asked to not be identified. “After that, it sounded like a war zone. It literally was just a barrage of bullets.”

After multiple shots were fired at the suspects, they fled the area.

“The fences are broken. I found a rubber glove laying in the driveway down there, and I also found a couple shell casings,” the neighbor said. “Even though it didn’t happen directly to me, it’s close enough where we saw the impact in our living room.”

Police said it is hoping to identify the three suspects in this case. The department said you should call the tip line at 253-288-7403 if you recognize the individuals involved.

This video comes a few days after another video from a security camera in Kent showed a suspect attempting to follow two people into their home with a gun after they returned in the middle of the night.
